# Administering Q&A

> Managing Q&A categories, pipelines, and branches

The Q\&A functionality is administered on the **Q\&A** page of the **Administration Interface**.
Here you may add and edit categories and pipelines, and set up the [rights](/qa/qa-rights) for each category.

The [Q\&A pipeline](/qa/qa-pipeline) is specific to each category and determines how questions in that category are handled. When a new category is set up, the pipeline of the default category is copied to the new category.

## Categories

Categories are used to separate the various types of questions that may be asked within a data room.
When Q\&A is set up for a data room, a default category named *General* is created.
This category may be renamed but will remain the default category (i.e. the category a question is assigned to unless another category is explicitly specified).

Each category has an individual [pipeline](/qa/qa-pipeline) which determines who is responsible for the various steps (e.g. accepting questions, drafting answers, confirming answers, etc.).

Q\&A rights are set by category, allowing you to restrict some categories to only a subset of the data room's users. Unless rights are specifically set, they are inherited from the default category.

## Multiple Q\&A and branches

The Service supports multiple Q\&A instances for a single data room, called **Q\&A branches**.
Each Q\&A branch is separate from other branches and shares no settings with other branches.
They may be used to conduct Q\&A with multiple parties inside the same data room with each party having access to their own Q\&A branch.

See the page on [Multiple Q\&A](/qa/multiple-qa) for how to set up multiple Q\&A branches in a single data room.
