Path length warnings
The Service warns administrators when a path or file name is too long. Warnings are triggered because some users may experience problems when trying to open or extract zip files with long paths. The problem mainly occurs when using Windows’ built-in zip client and can be avoided by using other zip clients. When warnings are triggered
Warnings are triggered when the total path exceeds 225 characters or when the file or folder name exceeds 125 characters. The hard limit for when Windows’ built-in zip client will trigger errors is 259 characters. The path of a file is the total path, e.g.Data Room Name\1 Folder A\1.1 Folder AB\1.1.1 File ABC.pdf. The file name is the last part of the path, e.g. 1.1.1 File ABC.pdf.
The Service is only able to measure the path inside the data room, but note that the path of the folder to which a data room is extracted is appended to the data room path in order to determine the total path at extraction.
E.g. if the file in the above example is extracted to the folder C:\Work\Documents, the total path will be C:\Work\Documents\Data Room Name\1 Folder A\1.1 Folder AB\1.1.1 File ABC.pdf.
